The process of multiple block woodblock printing creates the opportunity to produce nuanced images only limited by the pragmatics of materials available. Within the course you will acquire a basic understanding of press setup, paper absorption, image registration, ink curing time, color layering dynamics, reverse image making, and with all printmaking an appreciation for process and drawing. Whether you are interested in learning a simple method to expand past a singular color woodcut or would like to learn how to juggle multiple blocks registered to produce a consistent complex image rich in color and depth you will have fun.
Rooted in drawing, RICARDO RUIZ works in a variety of media such as painting, drawing, writing, sculpture, ceramic, printmaking, and sound. Ricardo’s work has been included in over 100 exhibitions and has had recent solo exhibitions at Big Medium Gallery, Austin, TX and 1708 Gallery, Richmond, VA. Ricardo is the recent recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Grant for a body of work detailing the migratory history of the Cherokee Indian, his ancestral heritage.
