Design and print your own greeting cards on a hand-operated letterpress using wood type and antique relief-block illustrations from the Valentine Museum. The tactile quality of ink pressed into paper results in your own handmade cards. This workshop combines an overview of letterpress and history with printmaking.

JAMIE MAHONEY is Assistant Professor and Director of the Bowe House Press, a letterpress studio at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts. As an educator, she teaches Printmaking and Book Arts. As an artist, Jamie experiments with both traditional and 21st-century printing technologies. Metal and wood materials of letterpress are combined with new technologies like laser cutters and 3D printing.
