Studio Two Three’s Rockstar Series brings artists to the studio to share their art-making skills while they get a taste of our wonderful city. Rockstars share their awesomeness with workshop at Studio Two Three highlighting their rockin’ technique, process and concept. During their time in Richmond, out-of-town Rockstars will stay in a local haunt and get the lay of the land from Richmonders - they might just fall in love and never leave.

Tim is an artist, designer and master printer in Philadelphia. He received his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Tim regularly teaches at Penland School of Craft and Tyler School of Art. Recent exhibitions include Pentimenti Gallery, Philadelphia, PA; Delaware Art Museum, The Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Wilmington, DE. He has work in several public and private collections.
Basics of Fabric Yardage Printing
with Tim Eads

This workshop covers the fundamentals of textile surface design including screen printing and monoprint methods. You'll learn how to successfully design and print basic repeat pattern designs in your own studio. We’ll quickly move past the basics so you can begin experimenting with multi-layer color transparencies and monoprinting using water-based pigments. The workshop is designed for the anyone wanting to create beautiful and unique fabrics that can be used for art or functional items.
Intro to Machine Tufting
with Tim Eads
August 18, 10am-4pm, $200
Payment plan available: $75 deposit plus 3 payments of $41.66, paid every four weeks
Learn power tufting machines and create rugs by hand. We'll cover the basics of setting up the backing cloth and frame, threading and working the tufting machines. You'll begin creating your own rug or pillow design that is 22" x 22". You will also learn how to cut, glue, and finish a rug for use on the floor or as a wall hanging.
The tufting frame, cloth, and yarn are included in the cost of the workshop. Additional supplies and the tufting machine will be available for purchase at a discounted price. Tufting machines will be provided to be used during the workshop so you don't need one to take the class.
PAST ROCKSTARS (STILL ROCKIN')
Christopher Kardambikis explores space, process, and form through books, printmaking, and drawing. He has co-founded three artist book and zine projects: Encyclopedia Destructica in Pittsburgh, Gravity and Trajectory in San Diego, and 90 Proof Press in Los Angeles. He received his BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and MFA from the University of California, San Diego.
Christopher is the host of Paper Cuts, a program on Clocktower Radio that documents the contemporary world of zines and DIY publishing. In the fall of 2016, Christopher joined the faculty at George Mason University as an Assistant Professor and the Director of Navigation Press.
Emmy Bright is a beautiful genius. They spent two weeks working at Studio Two Three in late 2017 making some exciting new work for their show at the Quirk Mezzanine Gallery, January 11-March 4, 2018.
