History Is Illuminating

History is Illuminating, a Collaborative Public History Project We partnered with an anonymous consortium of Richmond Historians & Artisans on a series of re-contextualized signs that share the history of Black history in Richmond. We designed & printed a zine to share this project with the community. DOWNLOAD THE DIGITAL ZINE HERE!

This magical collaborative public history project just popped up around town, spearheaded by a group of rogue historians and builders calling themselves @historyisilluminating!

Bring your kids and find each site on the map inside to learn about powerful Black history in Richmond and some important re-contextualizations of the city’s soon-to-be-gone but here-too-long monuments.

Follow the project @historyisilluminating and mad props to the rogue historians and builders who made this happen 🌞

And a special shoutout to our buddies @gibsonprint for helping to print this zine en masse 💛
