Big wonderful exciting announcement

Dear friends,

We are excited, humbled, delighted (and so many other adjectives) to announce that we’ve been awarded two public grants to support our community work in 2022!

For the 12 years that we've been around, we've run on grit, tenacity and very small dollars stretched big. So it's exciting for us to receive public funding to expand the work we've been doing all these years and to invest deeply and directly in artist residencies and community printmaking efforts.

Keep reading if you'd like to learn more about these new and expanded initiatives!

Ashley, Kate, KB and the S23 Team!

STRONGER TOGETHER:
COMMUNITY EFFORTS TO SUPPORT VACCINATION

Studio Two Three is being funded to create collaboratively produced printed works–– including zines, large-scale banners and screen printed items–– that will harness the power of the arts to engage audiences and participants of all ages in overcoming COVID-19 and influenza vaccine hesitancy.

Through funding from the CDC Foundation, Studio Two Three will partner with Richmond Public Schools to host live printmaking events with on-site vaccination! Families and individuals of all ages will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on screen printing, enjoy free food and local entertainment and to access up-to-date information on vaccines.

We believe in the power of artists to transform and to build healthy societies. This partnership exemplifies the ways in which artists can work to support public health through storytelling, creativity and community engagement.

Funding for this effort is made possible through a subaward from the CDC Foundation and is part of a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) financial assistance award totaling $2,500,000.00 with 100 percent funding from CDC/HHS. The contents are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the official views of, nor an endorsement by, CDC/HHS or the U.S. Government.

If you would like to participate in or contribute to this effort, please contact: kate@studiotwothree.org

NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS:
SUPPORT FOR ONGOING ARTIST RESIDENCIES

We believe working artists should thrive.

With NEA support, we will leverage our resources to host resident artists & bring our studio practice into
public spaces & grassroots organizations across our city.

Our Artist Residencies are designed for Richmond & Tri-Cities artists who work in printmaking, risograph printing & print media. They provide free 24/7 studio access for the residency period and free access to all classes in artistic processes and elements of business (financial management, marketing & promotion, copyright, web design).

Our residencies are self-guided. Artists should have experience with their medium and should be able to fully utilize the studio without the ongoing assistance of a staff person. Free classes on printmaking processes include, but are not limited to: screen printing, risograph printing, bookmaking, darkroom photography and relief printing. Certain residencies also provide materials & transportation stipends as well as one-to-one support from an experienced studio member artist.

Applications will be rated based upon artistic quality and fit of the proposed project for Studio Two Three’s studio offerings & equipment. Preference will be given to artists whose economic reality has prevented them from participating in opportunities of this nature.

Information and applications are available HERE, or by clicking the button below.
