Sun 4/27 1-3PM

Instructor: Brendan Baylor

Come learn to use a laser engraver in your woodblock prints. Laser engraving allows artists to create complex shaped blocks and detailed halftone images for relief printing. Artist Brendan Baylor will share his process and give detailed instructions on how to make your own blocks. Hands on printing with pre-cut blocks as well as example blocks and prints from the artist will be provided. See how to integrate the precision of the digital with the organic textures and qualities of traditional relief printmaking.

Brendan Baylor grew up in the Pacific Northwest, taking in the sights and sounds of the wetlands next to his childhood home. As an interdisciplinary artist, his work explores the political ecology of landscape. He is currently Assistant Professor of Art (Print Media) at Old Dominion University. He received his BA in Art from Portland State University and MFA in Studio Art from the University of Iowa. His work has been shown nationally and internationally in many venues including the Madison Museum of Contemporary; the University of Richmond Museums; and the CONA Institute in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
