Bookmaking 101
Sunday 3/30 11AM-3PM
Monday 4/14 - 5:30-8:30
Instructor: Tyler Keylon
at Studio Two Three - 109 West 15th Street
Learn the foundations of bookbinding methods that can be as simple or complex as your imagination allows. We will go over the materials and processes required to bind three types of booklets: the magic eight page zine, accordion books, and pamphlet stitching. These three bookbinding methods are foundational mediums in zines, chapbooks, and artist books. We will also go over the different printing and reproduction methods to creating an edition of hand-made booklets. Students will leave with an informational guide on the bookbinding techniques discussed, as well as a small edition of hand-bound booklets.
Tyler Keylon is a painter, printmaker, writer, and bookbinder based in Richmond, Virginia. Themes and subjects range, depending on the mood. When he’s not studying anatomy or moseying through the Mellon Collection at the VMFA, he’s yapping (intentionally) and trying to find joy in anything and everything.
